Sun Tiger
Recital by Thierry Pécou with Marc Coppey (cello) and Ann Cartel (flute)
A year after its Premiere by Marc Coppey and Alexander Melnikov, Soleil-Tigre / Sun Tiger for cello and piano will bring together the cello player and Thierry Pécou at the piano at the Arsenal in Metz.
Soleil-Tigre was commisionned by the Festival "Les Musicales" in Colmar and dedicated to Marc Coppey. The score is part of a cycle of five short chamber music pieces for one instrument and piano. The composition represents the five periods of the creation of the world as described in ancient Mexican cosmonogy. Soleil-Tigre is the secornd period in the history of the creation of the universe that was devoured in a long dark night.
In this piece which evokes the world of shadows and darkness and in which the depths of the Earth and the solar element are both present, I have combined the timbre of the cello and the piano in an effort to create the widest possibility of colours and musical registers. The lyricism of the musical lines created by the two instruments, associated with the penetrating rhythmic progressions, brings to mind the world of Amerindian Shamanism.
Another piece for piano by Thierry Pécou will be performed: The Poem of Time and Ether with Anne Cartel, the flute player from the Ensemble Variances.
