A reading of Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart by actor Éric Malgouyres
With musical accompaniment by Carjez Gerretsen on clarinet and David Louwerse on cello
Featuring works by Thierry Pécou, Graciane Finzi, Alfred Schnittke, Ludwig van Beethoven, Dominique Lemaitre, Iannis Xenakis and improvisations
The music naturally intertwines with Edgar Allan Poe's monologue, amplifying its tensions and underlining its silences. In this show, listening becomes more attentive, the senses sharpened by the timbres, pulsations and vibrations of sound. At times, time seems suspended, and silence becomes a character in its own right. Breaths, echoes, muffled shudders and strange sounds punctuate the reading, intensifying every word, every beat of the text... For at the heart of this work is madness. And murder, relentless, inexorable.
