Presentation

I first met Thierry Pécou in Cairo where we played the Quartet for the End of Time by Olivier Messiaen - a masterpiece in additive rhythms and extended linear thinking. Think Slow. Thierry’s music was also played which astounded me through its colorfull driving force.

During the festival we had a chance to improvise with traditional Egyptian musicians, introducing me to the real-time musical mind of Thierry. This combination of the spiritual and the instantaneous musical response led us to marry the music of Scelsi, also a master improviser, and Thierry - with my two bow technique. I cannot imagine a better combination of two musical minds weaving through the textures and counterpoints of two bowed harmonies. I await the rich timbres of Thierry’s music against the backdrop of Scelsi’s spiritual one-note world- a very unique musical experience in the making.
